Use a test sandwich to check the stitch quality

Load and Position the Quilt

Step 2.1 Load the backing, batting and quilt top.

Step 2.2 Baste the top edge using the horizontal channel lock to be sure it is square.

Step 2.3 Baste the side edges using the vertical channel lock.

Get the Pattern Ready

Step 3.1 Place the pattern on the table under the protective plastic sheet.

Step 3.2 If the pattern is directional, check that the direction matches the quilt. This step is easy to forget, because the pattern might seem upside down when standing at the back of the machine.

Step 3.3 Use the registration marks on the tabletop to check that the pattern is straight.

Mark the Beginning Binding Line

Step 4.1 Look at your quilt top and decide where the top and side Binding Lines will be. Move the machine head to the Lower Right Corner of the quilt (which is the intersection of the two Binding Lines on the beginning side). Put the needle in the down position here.

Step 4.2 Look at your pattern, and decide where the Binding Line will be. Choose a place on the pattern (usually between motifs) that would be a good place to begin stitching. Place a strip of masking tape on the plastic that is covering the pattern, positioned so it is perpendicular to the table track and overlaps the place where the Binding Line will be.

Step 4.3 On this piece of tape, mark the top and side Binding Lines. The intersection of the two Binding Lines is the Lower Right Corner. Mark and label the Lower Right Corner on the tape and adjust the laser light (or stylus) to point to this spot. You have now aligned the quilt top to the pattern.
